Muslim Youths Express Displeasure Over Davido's Video, Setting His Picture Ablaze
Recently, a group of aggrieved Muslim youths in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, staged a demonstration to express their dissatisfaction with the popular singer, Davido. The protest was in response to a video clip posted on Davido's Twitter page, which was considered offensive to Islam.
The controversy arose when Davido shared a snippet of the music video for his artist, Logos Olori's new single 'Jaye Lo.' The video depicted people praying and dancing in front of a mosque, which sparked heavy criticism from various prominent Nigerian Muslims. Personalities like former aide to ex-president Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, Senator Shehu Sani, and actor Ali Nuhi, called on Davido to take down the video and apologize for what they perceived as a "disrespect" to their religion.
Under the mounting pressure from the Muslim community, Davido eventually decided to remove the contentious video from his social media after 48 hours. However, he did not issue an apology for his actions, which further fueled the displeasure of the Muslim youths.
Frustrated with Davido's perceived arrogance, some Muslim youths in Maiduguri took to the streets and resorted to a drastic display of their discontent. They publicly set ablaze a large banner featuring the singer's picture.
It is essential to recognize that freedom of expression and religious sensitivity can sometimes clash in the public space. While Davido's intentions with the video might not have been malicious, the impact on some members of the Muslim community was profound enough to warrant their response.

As discussions continue, it is crucial for artists and public figures to be mindful of the potential implications of their content, so as to avoid causing unintended offense to any religious or cultural group.
